What is it to be a socially engaged meditation practitioner? How does the desire for justice manifest at both the personal and the societal level? Such questions birthed The Office of Social Engagement as an international office within the Shambhala community designed. In 2017 it was initiated to address the personal and systemic ways we perpetuate suffering in the world. There are two aspects to this office, the outer and the inner. The former reminds us that as practitioners and humans, there are layers of social conditioning that we inhabit and are sometimes, very unaware of. The second is that we need to engage with our fellow friends and changemakers. To be socially engaged is to be in conversation with ourselves and the world.
